2016 Oscars to Have Two Hosts
According to Entertainment Weekly, the 2016 Academy Awards has enlisted Emmy-winner David Hill to produce/direct and Reginald Hudlin of Django Unchained to run the show.
“With their enthusiasm and breadth of experience, David and Reggie will bring a fresh perspective to the Oscar show,” said Academy CEO Dawn Hudson.
“I love every kind of film and this year’s awards will be a celebration of the total range of cinema,” said Hudlin in a statement.
In addition to this pair working together behind the scenes, the 2016 Oscars will always have a pair of hosts in front of the camera. “There will be multiple hosts for sure – there will be two,” Hill told EW. “Two is better than one.”
The decision to have two hosts was likely inspired by the successful pairing of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler at the Golden Globes. This duo has killed it these past three years, ironically making the poor man’s Oscar ceremony a lot more fun to watch than the actual Oscar ceremony. The Academy Awards have experimented in the past with multiple hosts as well, although the results have been mixed. Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were just okay in 2010 while Anne Hathaway and James Franco were an utter disaster in 2011. Nothing has been able to top Fey and Poehler, who seem like the natural choices to host the 88th Academy Awards.
Even if they can’t nab Fey and Poehler as hosts, there are numerous duos that would be perfect for the job. A few names that come to mind include Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, or Amy Schumer and Bill Hader of Trainwreck. Also, am I the only one who thinks Betty White and Kirk Douglas would make a great pair? Despite their old age, they can still really command a live crowd. Who do you think should host the Oscars in 2016?
