2500 actors have already auditioned for the lead in Han Solo standalone movie

Jeanne McCarthy has her work cut out for her: as the casting director for the upcoming Han Solo spin-off film, she has to find the perfect fit for Harrison Ford’s shoes. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, they’ve already seen 2500 pairs of feet attempt to do so.

All these potential Solos are being whittled down so a shortlist can be presented to Phil Lord and Chris Miller, directors of the movie. But just who has auditioned already? Well, they include the famous names Dave Franco, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Logan Lerman, Jack Reynor – and many, many more. The casting team reportedly have a few prerequisites: the chosen actor must look at least a bit like a younger Harrison Ford, must be funny and charming, and be handy with action scenes. (Yeah, we thought the same – duh.)

Seeing as none of these more famous actors really look like Ford, we’re expecting that Lord and Miller will go with an unknown. After all, that’s what Ford himself was while the original Star Wars was being made, and Daisy Ridley and John Boyega – both in the fast-approaching The Force Awakens with Ford – are also relative unknowns. Personally, we think: why not this guy? He’s already played a younger Ford in the recent Age of Adaline.

Shooting on the as-yet untitled Han Solo standalone doesn’t commence until January 2017, so they’ve plenty of time to find their new vest-wearing, sharp-shooting, fast-talking space smuggler. The film is released on May 25, 2018.
