According to Hollywood Reporter, Chuck Russell is to direct a new live-action version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The film is titled the The Hunchback, with Max Ryan set to play the unfortunate Quasimodo.

The film is based, of course, on Victor Hugo’s classic novel Notre Dame De Paris: a story that’s been told on the big screen many times with the 1997 Disney cartoon being the most well-known.

At one stage, the new movie was thought to have been developed by Tim Burton and Josh Brolin but that rumour has now been put to bed as Russell and Ryan will instead team up for this tragic tale.

The Hunchback is slated to begin filming in Serbia next year.
