Lucasfilm Meeting with Female Directors and Writers for Star Wars

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Princess Leia was the one and only woman. As it’s been noted over the years, the Star Wars universe has been mostly dominated by men, both in front of and behind the camera. Disney and Lucasfilm are aiming to change this. Not only is Daisy Ridley’s Rey at the center of the main Force Awakens poster, but Lucasfilm is also meeting with female directors and writers to work on future Star Wars pictures.

The Los Angeles Times says that the William Morris Endeavor talent agency’s Adriana Alberghetti was successful in “procuring meetings for four female directors and three female writers on upcoming Star Wars films.”

It’s unknown who specifically Alberghetti talked to, but ComingSoon.net notes that she represents Sarah Gavron, the director of Suffragette, and Linda Woolverton, the writer of Maleficent.

It’d certainly be great to see a woman helm a Star Wars picture, especially considering that the franchise’s fanbase has plenty of female followers.
