Although J.J. Abrams won’t be helming the next installment of Star Wars as he hands over the directing duties to Rian Johnson, he’s still pretty clued up on the story that’s going to unfold.
Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, Abrams told the press that he knows “quite a bit” about Rey’s mysterious lineage.
“I know quite a bit,” said Abrams. “But obviously it’s not for me to talk about in this moment because this is Rian story to continue now and the last thing I’m going to do is reveal something he would be upset about. I want to make sure Rian gets that courtesy that he had shown me.”
Star Wars 9 director Colin Trevorrow was slightly more forthcoming in an interview with HeyUGuys.
“We’re going to make sure that that answer is deeply and profoundly satisfying,” he teased. “Rey is a character that is important in this universe, not just in the context of The Force Awakens, but in the entire galaxy. She deserves it. We’ll make sure that that answer is something that feels like it was something that happened a long time ago, far away, and we’re just telling you what happened.”
While not much is yet known about Star Wars Episode VIII, John Boyega who plays Finn has revealed that the next film in the franchise will be “much darker” than Abrams’ effort and we can’t wait.
