The R-rated Deadpool has become a surprise mega hit for 20th Century Fox and now Wolverine 3 is likely to go for an R-rating as well. On top of that, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to get an R-rated Director’s Cut on Blu-ray. Peyton Reed, who will be directing Ant-Man and the Wasp, decided to have some fun with this R-rated superhero trend with the following tweet:
Breaking: ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is going FULL NC-17. Confirmed.
— Peyton Reed (@MrPeytonReed) February 24, 2016
As you can probably guess, Reed was merely joking. However, his tweet did gain the attention of Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, who had this to say:
@MrPeytonReed I hear The Inhumans is gonna be a snuff film.

With Disney running the show, it’s highly unlikely we’ll ever see a hard R film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. As awesome as Deadpool was, not all superhero movies need to be super dark.
