While Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is breaking all kinds of records, both impressive and unwanted ones, it’s still up in the air whether or not Superman will get another standalone movie following Man of Steel. IGN spoke with director Zack Snyder, who’s also at the helm of the forthcoming Justice League movies, on the possibility of Kal-El flying solo once more.
‘I think if we could get a good script it would be great to have a standalone Superman movie. I think that would be fun to do… Part of the reason we haven’t announced the standalone Superman movie this time was to support some of the events of this film [Batman v Superman].’
Henry Cavill – Superman derobed – had his own opinion on the matter:
‘I do believe it depends upon the success of this movie. If this goes well then we can start to negotiate with Warner Bros. to develop a standalone Superman. But they’ve got their plan set out for other stuff and Justice Leagues and various other movies. It’s about finding the time, really. It’s something I’d be very keen to do.’
As Cavill says, DC already have their plate – or shall we say slate? – full: Justice League Part One and Part Two, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and Green Lantern all have their dates set right up until 2020. But it seems that both Snyder and Cavill would like to make another solo Supes flick – but audience reaction, i.e. our money, will be the greatest factor in deciding whether Man of Steel 2 sees the light of day. It seems we’ll have to wait and see the final box office numbers for Batman v Superman to get any kind of answer.
