According to George Lucas, R2-D2 may actually be the story’s narrator, recounting the entire Star Wars saga a hundred years after Episode VI.
io9 reports that Chris Taylor, author of How Star Wars Conquered the Universe, has revealed the theory that George Lucas shared with animation director Rob Coleman on the set of Revenge of the Sith.
Lucas called it “his ultimate framing device” while Taylor writes:
“The entire story of Star Wars is actually being recounted to the keeper of the Journal of the Whills — remember that? — a hundred years after the events of Return of the Jedi by none other than R2-D2,”
Taylor backs up the theory by the fact that R2-D2 is prominent in every film, he never gets his memory wiped and he often appears to be the hero, saving the lives of many major characters throughout the movies.
There are plenty of Star Wars theories around but what’s your take on this one? Could R2-D2 be the story’s narrator?
