A mere month before shooting on Bond 24 begins, Christoph Waltz has been announced to star. Waltz first shot to immediate fame in 2008 with Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, where he played the ‘jew hunter’ Nazi official Colonel Landa, and subsequently won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for the role. There’s been a lot of speculation already as to what role he will play in the new 007 flick, with the favourite theory being that he will play the central villain of the movie; not a long shot, given his previous roles not just in Inglourious Basterds, but also his evil performances in The Green Hornet, Water for Elephants and most recently Horrible Bosses 2. But according to Nuke the Fridge, an anonymous source who has had access to Bond 24’s screenplay has stated that it’s not entirely clear that Waltz’s character will be a straight-up enemy or an ally – or perhaps both, to some extent.
Expect more news on Waltz’s role in the coming months during shooting. While Bond 24 doesn’t currently have a title yet, Skyfall director Sam Mendes will be returning to make it with current Bond Daniel Craig, with a release scheduled for October 23, 2015.
