Two characters to return for Pacific Rim 2

In a recent interview with Collider, Guillermo de Toro has revealed that two characters from 2013’s Pacific Rim will be returning for the sequel (which is so far only known as Pacific Rim 2). With the screenplay nearing completion – touting the exciting notion of Jaeger-Kaiju hybrids – the director plans to include Charlie Day’s and Burn Gorman’s characters, Dr. Newton Geiszler and Gottlieb. On speaking about the film itself, it will be set ‘a few years after the first one… It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after… it’s quite a jump.’ Concerning the inclusion of Day’s and Gorman’s characters, del Toro said, ‘I think that two of our main characters like in the first one are Burn and Charlie. They are really, really – I mean, honestly, they are probably the guys I have the most fun writing along with Hannibal Chau…’ We’re really happy that Geiszler and Gottlieb will be coming back for the sequel – they were one of the most fun parts about Pacific Rim, and we can’t wait to have them back for Pacific Rim 2.
