Natalie Portman to star in Boyle’s Steve Jobs biopic?

Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs biopic is getting more and more interesting by the week; with Michael Fassbender close to securing the lead role in the film about Apple’s founder, another famous actor has reportedly been in talks for a role. According to Deadline, Natalie Portman may star, and although the role is unknown at this point, she could very well end up playing Job’s daughter, Lisa, as both are similarly aged and share similar features. This follows news that Sony Pictures dropped the film (but was then promptly picked up again by Universal), but the prestigious cast that is slowly assembling so far – now that Portman is almost onboard – assures us that the as-yet untitled feature will surely end up as an awards contender. Speaking of Lisa as envisioned in the film in an interview with The Independent, screenwriter Aaron Sorkin said:

‘And in the case of Steve Jobs, it’s the relationships he had – particularly with his daughter, Lisa – that drew me to it. She didn’t participate in Walter Isaacson’s book, because her father was alive at the time, and she didn’t want to alienate either of her parents, so I was very grateful that she was willing to spend time with me. She is the heroine of the movie.’

Sorkin’s description of Lisa as ‘the heroine’ here is very interesting. We assume she’ll save Fassbender’s Jobs from failure at the last minute, or something similarly dramatic – and who better to play her than Natalie Portman?
