Russell Crowe has responded to rumors linking him to the role of X-Men character Cable in Deadpool 2.
Comic-book legend and Deadpool‘s co-creator Rob Liefeld tweeted to Russell Crowe that he should go for the part:
@russellcrowe you should read for #Cable in Deadpool and X-Force. Just sayin…

But Crowe gave a hasty reply, questioning the assumption that he’d have to audition for the role:
huge fan sir. Poorly worded. Apologies.

The Gladiator star seemed to accept Liefeld’s apology, and gave a more positive second response, clearly keeping his options open as he copied Ryan Reynolds into the conversation:
I'm sure if @VancityReynolds has any interest in that idea he'll find a way https://t.co/KFUC6fIxjS

Crowe has superhero history with DC, starring as Superman’s biological father Jor-El in Man of Steel. Many are now hoping that the actor will crossover to the Marvel universe and play the time-travelling mutant, Cable.
Deadpool 2 is directed by David Leitch and is scheduled for 2018.
