UPDATE: Warner Bros. has told Flickreel that they currently have no plans for a Cursed Child movie:

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a stage play, with no plans for there to be a film.”

Harry Potter producer Lionel Wigram has spoken out on a Cursed Child movie. Wigram produced four Potter films, as well as the recent Fantastic Beasts, and he certainly seems keen on a Cursed Child movie.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been hugely successful on stage for almost a year now, with a Broadway run opening in 2018.

With the play performing so well on stage, it seems inevitable to get the big-screen treatment. And Wigram is keen on the idea, telling Express.co.uk at the King Arthur premiere last night, that he thinks Cursed Child “would make a great movie”:

“Whatever she wants, as far as I’m concerned, is right. I think [Cursed Child] would make a great movie. Maybe at some point she’ll be ready to do that. I love the fact that there’s another aspect of the Harry Potter world which is completely different from everything else. I think it’s very special as it is and there will be a time when she’s maybe ready to do it [as a movie].” he said.

Recently, it was a discovered that Warner Bros. had filed an official trademark for a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child feature film. While New York Daily News reports that the studio want Daniel Radcliffe to return:

“Warner is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled, and of course in their minds only one man should be Harry.” a source said.

Could Radcliffe return?

A Cursed Child movie may still be some way off though, as four Fantastic Beasts sequels are planned until 2024.
