Kirsten Dunst thinks the newer Spider-Man movies are not as strong as the ones she starred in and that Marvel are “milking” the franchise for money.
Dunst played Mary Jane opposite Tobey Maguire in the original Spider-Man films, which ran from 2002 to 2007. Recently, the Fargo actress told Variety that “everyone likes our Spider-Man. I’d rather be in the first ones than the new ones,” and now she’s accused Marvel of “milking” it with the reboots, telling Marie Claire magazine:
“We made the best ones, so who cares? I’m like, ‘You make it all you want. They’re just milking that cow for money. It’s so obvious. You know what I mean?” she said.
“They’re just milking that cow for money.”
The Spider-Man franchise has been rebooted twice since Dunst’s movies. Andrew Garfield took on the titular role in 2012 and 2014, and Tom Holland is the latest actor to take on the part, first appearing as the web-slinger in last year’s Captain America: Civil War.
As for Dunst, she next stars in Horror western The Beguiled, which arrives on June 30th.
