Federal agents have arrested a California man for posting Deadpool in its entirety on Facebook.
According to Variety, 21-year-old Trevon Maurice Franklin shared the 2016 film on his Facebook page under the screen name of Tre-Von M. King. Franklin posted Deadpool roughly eights days following its theatrical release, reportedly accumulating over five million viewers. Franklin has been charged for copyright infringement and could face up to three years in federal prison.
Granted, Franklin’s copy didn’t stop Deadpool from grossing over $780 million worldwide. Entertainment companies take piracy very seriously, though, and Franklin exemplifies why you don’t want to cross them.
Hopefully Franklin won’t make the mistake of uploading Deadpool 2, which comes out on June 1, 2018.
