Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron clashed on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road, according to their co-star Zoe Kravitz.
Kravitz confirmed that tensions were high between the pair, telling Watch What Happens Live, that they simply “didn’t get along”:
“I don’t actually know if there was one issue, I think it was just it was that they weren’t vibing. It was like summer camp, at some point everyone has some sort of issue with somebody, because that’s just the way people are.”
The film was shot in Namibia 2012 for six months, and it’s already been widely reported that shooting was not an easy experience for cast and crew. And Kravitz emphasized this as the reason for any high tensions:
“We were in the desert for so long. I think everyone was tired, and confused, and homesick. We saw nothing but sand for six months. You go crazy, you do.”
Theron and Hardy have both already admitted they didn’t really hit it off during production. Theron told Esquire in 2015:
“We drove each other crazy, but I think we have respect for each other, and that’s the difference… there’s a real beauty to that kind of relationship.”
While Hardy reportedly gave Theron a gift at the end of the shoot, which was a self-portrait, with a note that said:
“You are an absolute nightmare, BUT you are also f***ing awesome. I’ll kind of miss you. Love, Tommy.”
The sequel, Mad Max: The Wasteland, is currently in development.
