Since the tragic loss of Carrie Fisher, many have wondered how Lucasfilm will handle the future of her Star Wars character Leia. The studio’s President Kathleen Kennedy recently revealed that Leia will not feature in The Last Jedi‘s follow-up film, however it’s also been reported that they are still keeping their options open, but will not take the CGI route. Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow has said the film will treat her untimely death with “love and respect”. And now John Boyega has also spoken about the General’s fate in the upcoming film.
Boyega, who plays Finn, has told ABC News that The Last Jedi will say goodbye to Leia “in a very amazing way” and his words seem to suggest that she won’t be killed off:
“This movie, it sends her off in a very amazing, amazing way. She’s still kept alive in this franchise. You know, that’s the beauty of it, she lives forever in a sense.” he said.
So it certainly seems that Leia won’t be killed off, which makes it intriguing to see how they will say goodbye to the iconic character. Episode IX has just found a new writer to make adjustments, which may include writing Fisher’s role out of the script.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives on December 15.
