Director Zack Snyder left the production of Justice League following a family tragedy. Joss Whedon has since been guiding the project and it appears Snyder won’t return to the creative team.

Speaking with Wired, Snyder discussed Whedon and the new direction he might be taking the upcoming film. Snyder also noted that he felt it would be “unfair in a lot of ways” if he returned to the project.

“I’m at a place where I feel excited about it and I’m happy for my guys and I love these people that are working on it, and they’re my family and I think they’re doing an amazing job,” he stated. “But I’ve kind of just let them do their thing.”

Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
