Harrison Ford confirmed for Blade Runner sequel

Having already said he was interested in returning to the role of Rick Deckard, Harrison Ford has now been confirmed for the Blade Runner sequel. Also in final negotiations to direct the film is Denis Villeneuve, taking over from Ridley Scott who will still oversee the sci-fi thriller as a producer.

The 1982 original notoriously flopped at the box-office on initial release and even took a critical mauling at the time but quickly developed a cult following. Ford has previously spoken of how he had problems with the first film, which arrived on screens over-budget and behind schedule. “I didn’t like the movie one way or the other. I was a detective who did not have any detecting to do. In terms of how I related to the material, I found it very different.” said the star in an interview back in 1999.

Ford has apparently been enthusiastic to return for the follow-up, according to none other than Ridley Scott.

Villeneuve has previously made Oscar-nominated drama Incendies, and the well-received Hugh Jackman thriller Prisoners. He has just wrapped on Sicario, a Mexican cartel movie starring Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin and Emily Blunt.

No plot details are currently available for the Blade Runner sequel, although filming is scheduled to start in the summer of 2016 – a mere three years before the setting of the original film. Now there’s a scary thought.
