A sympathetic Emperor would have appeared in the cancelled Star Wars TV show

Some unexpected news in the way of Star Wars.

God of War director, Cory Barlog, has revealed details about the cancelled live-action Star Wars TV show.

While talking to VentureBeat about the new God of War videogame, Barlog talked about experience working on Star Wars: 1313, a game set in the same time-frame as the forgotten TV series, titled Star Wars: Underworld.

When working on the game, Barlog was allowed to “go up to the ranch and read the scripts for the [canceled live-action Star Wars] TV show.” He calls the experience “the most mind-blowing thing I’d ever experienced.”

Barlog learned of the Emperor’s past, and that he may not have been such a bad guy after all.

“I cared about the Emperor. They made the Emperor a sympathetic figure who was wronged by this f**king heartless woman. She’s this hardcore gangster, and she just totally destroyed him as a person,” said Barlog.

This sounds similar to Anakin Skywalker’s tragic story. Sympathetic villains seem to be a staple in the Star Wars universe.

It’s unclear what the future will hold for Underworld, which reportedly had 50 scripts penned. However, it certainly left an impression on Barlog, who became inspired by the Emperor’s sympathetic side. His reading of the scripts helped transform Kratos from a brutal God-killer to a desperate family man in the upcoming God of War game.
