As Rogue One: A Star Wars Story continues to set the world alight with its hugely impressive box office haul, focus will soon turn to the “saga” element of the franchise and Star Wars: Episode VII. Indeed, with under a year to go until we get to see the continued adventures of Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker amongst others, our first glimpse of the film cannot be too far away with a teaser trailer rumoured to be arriving soon.
But while details are being kept under the tightest of tight security, star Adam Driver has been speaking about the film whilst doing promotion for his new films Silence and Paterson in the US. While he remains tight-lipped on revealing anything detailed about the film, he was asked on Larry King Live (via IGN) about Kylo Ren and what aspect of the character fans will be most excited by and said:
“I think humanity… There were plot points operating in the first one that we knew that we get to explain more in the second one. They both feel socially active to me.”
He went to expand on the social and political aspects of the film and how the original film was George Lucas’ films were “a response to Vietnam” and that new world themes were part of the new trilogy as well, saying:
“I remember talking about with J.J. (Abrams) and Rian (Johnson) was this idea of terrorism, and two sides being morally justified to behave however they wanted to to get whatever they thought was absolutely correct.”
When we get to see any footage from the film remains to be seen, but excitement and expectations are slowly ramping up. Driver returns alongside Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson and Andy Serkis for the second (eighth) film with new recruits Benicio del Toro (Sicario) and Laura Dern (Certain Women). Rian Johnson (Looper) writes and directs.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in cinemas now; Star Wars: Episode VIII opens on December 15th.
