After six seasons, will a Community movie actually happen?

Despite low ratings, cancellations, and behind the scenes drama, Dan Harmon’s cult comedy series, Community, delivered on its promise of six seasons. Fans are still eager to see if a movie will actually get off the ground, however. According to Harmon, a feature film is definitely in the cards.

Making an appearance on Larry King Now, Harmon stated, “I mean, it’ll make a great movie” and “It’ll happen.”

Of course we likely won’t see the Community movie any time soon, as the entire cast has other projects in the works. Gillian Jacobs (Britta Perry) is currently starring in the Netflix series Love and will appear in Don’t Think Twice later this year, Donald Glover (Troy Barnes) has a role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Alison Brie (Annie Edison) currently voices Diane Nguyen in BoJack Horseman, Ken Jeong (Ben Chang) is the leading man on ABC’s Dr. Ken, Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley Bennett) is starring as Dani on CBS’s reboot of The Odd Couple, Danny Pudi (Danny Pudi) has roles in After the Sun Fell and Smurfs: The Lost Village, and Joel McHale (Jeff Winger) is playing Chevy Chase in the biopic A Futile & Stupid Gesture.

Speaking of Chevy Chase, who played Pierce Hawthorne on Community, the senior comedian is the one Greendale alumnus who isn’t up to much. Then again, Chase was notorious for his bad behavior on the set of Community, which resulted in his character being killed off during season five. So it’s unlikely he’ll play a major role in a Community movie.

When asked about getting the gang back together, Harmon responded, “If I pull out a typewriter right now and write a Community movie just for my own heart and mind, then I have to go through the heartbreak and agony of finding out which of the people are going to show up to make it. On the other hand, if I wait for everybody to line up and say ‘we’re all out of work and ready to do a Community movie,’ then I guess that’s a bad idea, too.”

Even though the Community cast has moved on to other things, we could still see them reunited. After all, the Arrested Development cast returned after several years for a fourth season. Of course that cult show had Netflix backing it. After Community was cancelled by NBC, it was picked by by Yahoo! Screen for one more season. Yahoo! Screen couldn’t compete with other on-demand streaming services, though, and was shut down in January 2016.

Nevertheless, as long as Harmon believes there’s hope, the following hashtag will live on: #AndAMovie.
