Recently, it was announced that comedian Amy Schumer was cast as Barbie in Sony’s live-action film, but now since landing the role, she’s received a backlash of body-shaming.
Many have taken on twitter to express their concern over her casting, calling her physically unsuitable for the part:

Fat shaming is a normal reaction to an unhealthy lifestyle choice. We don't tell smokers to be proud of their cancer https://t.co/Dh5VxhX0Wl

Wait. I didn't think Barbie was overweight?
Oh that's right. That's Hollywood telling us how to think.
That's not my Barbie.#AmySchumer

According to Deadline, Schumer will also co-write the script and portray “a character who lives in Barbieland, among all of the various Barbie characters beloved by doll collectors (there are dolls covering over 180 careers).
“In a fish out of water story reminiscent of films like ‘Splash’ and ‘Big,’ Schumer’s Barbie gets kicked out, basically because she’s not perfect enough, is a bit eccentric and doesn’t quite fit the mold.
“She then goes on an adventure in the real world and by the time she returns to Barbieland to save it, she has gained the realization that perfection comes on the inside, not the outside.”
A director is yet to be announced but Barbie is scheduled for a summer 2018 release.
