Marvel has today officially announced that Oscar Nominee Angela Bassett has joined the cast of Black Panther, the latest film from their expanded Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Bassett will play Ramonda, who is the mother of Black Panther aka T’Challa, played in the film by Chadwick Boseman who made his debut in this summer’s Captain America: Civil War. She joins Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Daniel Kaluuya, Florence Kasumba and Academy Award Winner Forest Whitaker.
Best known for her roles in such films as Malcolm X, What’s Love Got To Do With It? and Boyz N the Hood, Bassett has most recently been part of hit television show American Horror Story. This will not be first time the actress has delved into the comic-book world after appearing in 2011’s ill-fated Green Lantern.
Ryan Coogler (Creed) directs the film that is due to hit cinemas on February 16th, 2018.
