Sorry Bad Boys fans – Martin Lawrence says third film is dead

It seems that Bad Boys may not be for life after all if the news on the long-rumored third film in the action franchise from one of its stars is true.

The new installment, tentatively called Bad Boys For Life, has been in development hell since the 2nd film was released in 2003 with many “almost” moments but nothing concrete. But now star Martin Lawrence has spoken again about the film, this time to Entertainment Weekly and says that it’s probably never going to happen, saying:

“I don’t think we’re going to get one, not the way everything’s turning out… Will is off doing another movie, and I don’t think it’s going to happen. I’m there, I’m ready right now. If they wanted to do it, I’m ready, but I don’t have control of that. That’s the studio’s decision.”

In 2016, Will Smith spoke to Jimmy Kimmel about the status of the film and said that the project was “very, very close” and was set for a November 2018 release date before falling off of Sony’s release schedule. Then, earlier this year, writer/director Joe Carnahan (Narc, The A-team) exited the project and now it seems that it may never happen unless original director Michael Bay was to get involved again which may see it pushed back into production. But don’t hold your breath…
