Batman v Superman breaks records with a big opening weekend

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had one of the biggest opening weekends ever, earning an estimated $424.1 million worldwide.

DC’s powerhouse film raked in $170.1 million in North America (breaking The Hunger Games‘ $152.5 million opening weekend record). Overseas, BvS grossed another $254 million, with $57.3 million in China alone.

It’s clear audiences were not scared away by BvS‘ negative response from critics, Zack Snyder’s film now holds the biggest opening ever for DC Comics, nudging over Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Rises ($160.9 million) for the top spot. Marvel is still the comicbook movie king of North America, though, The Avengers ($207.4 million), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.3 million) and Iron Man 3 ($174.1 million) still sit as the Top 3 superhero movie openings.
