Ben Affleck rumoured to direct solo Batman film
While the world slowly gears up for one of the mightiest clashes in cinema history with next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, there’s already talk of the caped crusader getting his own movie. And the rumour mill has duly begun spinning, the newest speculation being that Ben Affleck will be directing The Batman, due for release in November 2018.
The rumour comes from Latino Review, who report that Affleck – who’s playing the new big-screen incarnation of Batman – will not only be donning the legendary cape and cowl a second time round, but will also be behind the camera. This is a tremendously exciting possibility, since Affleck’s directorial offers so far have been exquisitely crafted adult thrillers – Gone Baby, Gone, The Town, and Argo – and he’s an Oscar-winner to boot. On that note, Chris Terrio, who wrote the screenplay for Argo, is also apparently linked to the project (which makes sense, as he’s writing both Justice League – Part One and Justice League – Part Two).
We like the simplicity of the title, too: The Batman just sounds like it’s ready for business. Hopefully, Affleck will be too – and DC Studios will be lucky to have him if these reports prove to be true.
In the meantime, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is released March 25, 2016.
