Boyd Holbrook on The Predator and whether Arnold Schwarzenegger is involved
We may not see a beloved character in Shane Black’s The Predator..
There are a slew of remakes either in production or being mooted in Hollywood right now but none are as perhaps anticipated that the return of Shane Black to the Predator mythology with his reboot/remake, The Predator. Set to start shooting this year, the writer-director behind such films as The Nice Guys and Iron Man 3 is well into his new entry and has begun casting the film too with Logan star Boyd Holbrook onboard – and with the release of said Wolverine film almost upon us, the actor has been speaking about what we can expect from the new “reimagining” of the sci-fi classic.
Speaking to We Got This Covered, Holbrook said:
“I’m currently working on Predator, it’s not a sequel… Shane Black has made something totally new, somehow keeping within the realm of ‘Predator’ [while also being] absolutely new in terms of the story that we’re talking about today, and rooted in something real. It’s real fresh… It’s horror, science-fiction and a western.”
Anything that Black does always gets cinemagoers excited but not many would have predicted that he would return to the Predator series, nor indeed be directing the film. Indeed with Black’s links to the 1987 original (which he acted in), many rumours have flown around about whether original star Arnold Schwarzenegger would return in some capacity to the new film, but Holbrook says it’s unlikely, saying:
“I don’t think you’re going to see (Arnold) Schwarzenegger. It would kind of make it a gimmick.”
Holbrook co-stars with Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), Jacob Tremblay (Room), Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu), Sterling K. Brown (The People vs. O.J. Simpson) and Thomas Jane (The Punisher).
The Predator is set for release on February 9th, 2018.
