Captain America: Civil War directors say a Black Widow movie is ‘a no-brainer’

Although we’ve enjoyed the exploits of Black Widow for five films now, we’ve yet to see a solo film from super-spy Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson). But the obstacles in getting one made only seem to be in terms of scheduling, according to a couple of people very high up in the Marvel chain of command.

Collider spoke with Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo, in which the character makes her latest appearance, and their answer sounds very optimistic on the possibility of getting a standalone picture off the ground. ‘It’s a no-brainer, right?’ says Anthony, while brother Joe adds, ‘I don’t think [it’ll take] much. I think it’s just a function of where on the slate it goes. She’s a bad-ass.’

And she has been a bad-ass for six years now, but still hasn’t got a solo movie. Do you think Marvel will reconsider Black Widow’s popularity, and add a standalone film their Phase Three slate? Or will it be something we see much further down the line?

Captain America: Civil War is out now in the UK, and released May 6 in the US.
