Chris Pine rumoured for Green Lantern

It may not be until 2020 that we see the next Green Lantern movie, but it looks like DC Studios could be toeing the water early. As reported by Latino Review – who are usually a reliable source on superhero film news – Chris Pine is up for the role. Pine is most famous for the rebooted Star Trek franchise, where he plays Captain Kirk, and has done plenty of other great performances since, whether that be chewing the scenery in Into the Woods or Horrible Bosses 2, or heading up his own explosive action flick Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

After the 2011 Green Lantern, which was largely hated by both critics and fans (and starred Ryan Reynolds, who’s now playing Deadpool for Marvel), DC clearly know they have to get it right this time. And who better than Pine? The man exudes star appeal, and a magic ring that grants him reality-warping abilities would only add to that. Even though the new solo Green Lantern movie is far off (another five years yet), DC still have to build their universe – he could very well pop up in an earlier film, which is likely considering Aquaman and Wonder Woman’s involvement in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Green Lantern will be released June 19, 2020.
