Critics go la la for La La Land; calling it our ‘first Oscar contender’

Damien Chazelle burst onto the scene as a director in 2014 with Whiplash, the exhilarating music drama that stunned audiences. And now he’s it at it again it seems with his latest endeavour, La La Land.

Like Whiplash, La La Land has music at its core, as the story follows a jazz pianist (Ryan Gosling) who falls for an aspiring actress (Emma Stone) in Los Angeles. Both stars lend their singing voices to the production as the film takes on the form of a musical.
