Dad’s Army director hints at further frolics (Exclusive)

Dad’s Army director Oliver Parker is keen on the idea of making more films based around the classic British sitcom.

In our exclusive interview, Parker discussed the potential of making more Dad’s Army films and believes prequels would be the best way to go forward.

“I think there are countless prequels to do because we’ve used the end of the war for this film. We could even have the post-war years… the wilderness years!” he said.

This is in contrast to how Parker initially felt about the movie reboot as he openly shared his concerns about the project.

It was a poisoned chalice when it arrived… and now it’s even worse!” he joked.

The original sitcom ran on the BBC for nine series from 1968–1977 and is thought of to be one of Britain’s best comedy shows. The new film has an impressive cast with the likes of Catherine Zeta-Jones, Bill Nighy and Toby Jones as it follows the familiar Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard platoon as they deal with a visiting female journalist and a German spy as World War II draws to its conclusion.

However, Dad’s Army has failed to live up to expectations on the big screen with generally poor reviews but with it’s UK theatrical release today, audiences may still march their way into cinemas, and if they do, there’s every chance that Parker will get the go ahead with his proposed prequels.
