Daniel Brühl joins Captain America: Civil War

Daniel Brühl, star of Rush and The Fifth Estate, has just clambered onto the cast list for Captain America: Civil War. This is a fantastic development for a movie that sounds terribly exciting already. 2016’s movie will more or less follow the famous comic storyline Civil War, where the Avengers are torn in two following the announcement of the Superhero Registration Act, which demands that all heroes unmask and reveal their secret identities. Steve Rogers AKA Captain America takes the side of civil liberties, while Tony Stark AKA Iron Man sides up with the government; cue an epic face-off that will see allegiances broken and the deaths of beloved characters. With Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. announced, Brühl’s attachment was led by this quote from Marvel head honcho Kevin Fiege

‘With Daniel’s ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes.’

Of course, this doesn’t reveal what role Brühl will play – but we’ve got a hunch, given his ability to give some great vitriolic speeches, that he’ll end up playing a villain. He’ll also be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his Rush co-star Chris Hemsworth (though probably not in this particular film).
