Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting hit theaters almost 20 years ago. The film told the tale of Renton (Ewan McGregor), a heroine addict having trouble kicking his nasty habit. Since then, Boyle has taken home a Best Director Oscar for Slumdog Millionare and his latest film, Steve Jobs, will be opening this October. Now Boyle has confirmed with Deadline that a sequel to Trainspotting will be his next outing.

“All the four main actors want to come back and do it,” Boyle says. “Now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series.”

John Hodge, who received a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination for the original Trainspotting, will also be returning. He will adapt the screenplay from Irvine Welsh’s second novel, Porno.

At the end of Trainspotting, Renton informs the audience that he’s “going straight and choosing life.” After all these years, it should be fascinating to see what has become of Renton and if he could really ever “change.”
