Die Hard Prequel Gets A Director

UPDATE: The project’s title has been confirmed to be Die Hard: Year One.

Legendary action hero John McClane is returning to the bring screen. Deadline reports that the sixth installment of Fox’s Die Hard franchise will be an origin story, focusing on McClane’s early years as a hardboiled New York City cop in 1979.

It’s undetermined who will play the younger McClane, but Bruce Willis may be returning to “bookend” the story line. Live Free or Die Hard‘s Len Wiseman is pinned to direct the prequel. Wiseman pitched new ideas to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who is now developing the project. A screenwriter has not been chosen.

We last saw Willis take Russia in John Moore’s A Good Day to Die Hard, which opened to a lukewarm response from critics and audiences. Let’s see if Wiseman can rekindle the same magic he did with Live Free back in 2007.
