Director Gareth Edwards has dropped out of the sequel to 2014’s Godzilla. Nobody tell Roland Emmerich!

Edwards directed the previous Godzilla movie and the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. According to Deadline, Edwards wants to pursue projects that are “smaller in scale” after directing “back-to-back tentpole-size pictures.”

Legendary and Warner Bros. are now looking for Edwards’ replacement. In addition to the delayed Godzilla followup, Kong: Skull Island is also in development as part of a cinematic universe.
