Director leaves World War Z sequel

The much awaited sequel to World War Z is in a spot of bother as Director Juan Antonio Bayona who’s been attached since December 2013 has quit just before the film was due to start shooting.

According to DeadlineParamount are keen to get World War Z 2 in production over the coming months but that’s not possible for Bayona as he is still finishing up his latest project A Monster Calls.

“Bayona is no longer able to make World War Z 2 this year,” goes the studio’s official statement, “and it is our ambition to do so. He is a wonderful director and we hope to work with him soon.”

Bayona was reportedly already considering jumping ship to Jurassic World 2. The speculation is now that he’ll do just that.

World War Z 2 is currently set to release June 9, 2017, but without a director we may now see that change.
