Disney might be taking another trip under the sea.

Deadline reports that the Mouse House is considering making a live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. While the project hasn’t officially been given the green light, Disney is “in the early stages of reviving” Hans Christian Andersen’s iconic fairy-tale.

Universal and Working Title have their own adaptation of The Little Mermaid in the works starring Chloë Grace Moretz. One can’t help but wonder if this had anything to do with Disney’s decision to potentially give their 1989 animated feature a live-action reboot.

Disney has been remaking many of their animated classics as of late with several more in production, including Beauty and the Beast. Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book was most notably a huge critical success and is still performing quite well at the box office. Ironically, Warner Bros. is developing a new Jungle Book movie too. So over the course of only a few years, we could see two Jungle Books and two Little Mermaids!

What do you think? Should Disney move forward with The Little Mermaid or have we been getting too many live-action remakes?
