After the most recent film in the Divergent series, Allegiant, performed poorly at the box office, Lionsgate is looking take the final film in the franchise to the smaller screen.
Variety reports that The Divergent Series: Ascendent will go straight to TV, as a source revealed that the studio is in the “early stages” of negotiations.
Lionsgate are also reportedly planning to launch a spinoff TV show that takes place in the same post-apocalyptic setting but with new cast and crew.
Ascendant was set to begin filming in Atlanta this summer but with the budget slashed and now after this latest development, the production schedule has changed and it’s even in the balance as to whether the original cast of Shailene Woodley and co. will reprise their roles for the TV movie.
