Divergent’s final film will have its budget slashed after Allegiant flops

After a poor showing at the box office for Allegiant, it’s been reported that the last film in the Divergent series Ascendant will have its budget severely slashed.

Allegiant took in just $29 million over its opening weekend in the US, with a $110 million budget and was down 44% compared to 2015’s Insurgent. While the first Divergent did well, making $54.6 million on its debut in 2014.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, because of the decline in box office money for the films, the budget for the final instalment is now set to be trimmed by “several millions of dollars” at least.
