We’ve all seen the trailer for Captain America: Civil War, and we’ve all seen the moment in question: War Machine, AKA Rhodey – AKA Don Cheadle – falls from the sky with his suit pierced, and as Tony Star cradles him, we wonder if he is indeed – gulp – dead.
The actor was asked by the New York Daily News his thoughts on this potential path for the MCU. ‘I’m on Twitter,’ he says, ‘so I’ve gotten a few people going, “Rhodey better not be dead, son. I’m going to be so mad”. Or “I’m done with this thing if Rhodey’s dead”. But that’s cool, I like that people get so upset about it. I like that in a Marvel movie people are able to evoke such emotion.’
As far as the trailer is cut, it appears that Bucky Barnes – AKA the Winter Soldier – is the one who pulls the trigger on Rhodey. If it turns out, however, that Rhodey is merely unconscious, then we are essentially getting a rehash of Stark’s motivation from Iron Man 3, when Happy (Jon Favreu) is sent into a coma by the Mandarin’s forces. Either way, we feel that both the trailer and Cheadle are keeping their cards close to their chest.
Not that it’s long to wait, anyway: Captain America: Civil War is released April 29 in the UK, and May 6 in the US.
