Donald Glover and James Earl Jones cast in The Lion King reboot
Early morning UK time, seemingly out of nowhere. Director Jon Favreau tweeted these two pictures below. Announcing that Donald Glover will voice Simba in the upcoming The Lion King.
Now it’s safe to say, coming from the director itself this looks like official casting news for Disney’s creative realistic CGI remake of The Lion King, much in the vain of the way The Jungle Book looked.I’m sure we’re all glad Darth Vader himself, James Earl Jones is coming back to reprise his legendary role as King Mufasa. Favreau met Glover for the first time at The Hollywood Reporters creatives roundtable, where he also mentions that he sees his face every day on his son’s wall. For Glover, it’s been an incredible last 12 months, to say the least. He wrote, directed, produced and starred in the surreal comedy Atlanta on FOX, that nabbed 2 Golden Globes and 2 Critic’s Choice Awards. He’s appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming and will be stepping up as Lando in the Star Wars Han Solo film. All this while still releasing an album ‘Awaken, My Love!’ (under his musical name Childish Gambino) which soared to #1 on the R&B charts last November.

Looks like the industry is catching Donald Glover fever and at only 33, he’s looking like quite the talent.
