Don’t Breathe scares away Suicide Squad
After reining at the top of the box office for three weeks in a row, Suicide Squad was finally dethroned by newcomer Don’t Breathe.
According to Box Office Mojo, Fede Alvarez’s latest horror flick grossed an estimated $26.1 million. Suicide Squad dropped to second with an estimated $12.1 million, bringing its domestic total to $282.9 million. Kubo and the Two Strings actually managed to climb up to third place, making $7.9 million during its second weekend. Sausage Party continued to perform well, coming in fourth with $7.66 million. Meanwhile, Mechanic: Resurrection rounded out the top five with $7.5 million.
Although Don’t Breathe had people screaming in the theaters, it was otherwise a fairly quiet weekend at the box office. Looks like the summer movie season is officially winding down.
