Drew Goddard to direct the new Spider-Man movie
With the cancellation of the Amazing Spider-Man series featuring Andrew Garfield, when it was announced that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios had joined forces to bring the web-slinging superhero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there has been tonnes of speculation: who will play the new Spider-Man? How will it fit into the wider Marvel universe with Iron Man and Captain America? And so on and so forth. But now one of those many questions has finally been answered: Drew Goddard will direct the new Spider-Man film, due to take the place of the originally planned The Amazing Spider-Man 3 on its release in 2016. Goddard had originally been attached to Sinister Six, a movie that teamed up the supervillains of the Amazing franchise, but that seems to be dead – for now – as Goddard moves onto this thrilling new project. Goddard won’t be entirely unfamiliar with the Marvel vernacular; he directed Cabin in the Woods, a brilliantly subversive horror flick written by none other than Joss Whedon, director of both The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. He’s sure to give Goddard a few tips, but call us officially excited for the new Spider-Man film; all we need now is Spidey himself.
