Erotic thriller Stranger by the Lake pulled from Cineworld screens

Though a hit on the festival circuit – with a triumphant showing at Cannes Film Festival last year – Alain Guiraudie’s erotic French picture has been pulled from cinema chain Cineworld screens, only two days before its general release. The production, which features explicit sexual scenes, has been pulled by the multiplex chain following a single complaint from an anonymous film distributor, who has issues with the film’s short window between it’s big screen release, and on-demand release. Given the nature of the film, fans have been left understandably unhappy, while Cineworld are refusing to comment on the controversial decision.
