Ewan McGregor wants to come back as Obi-Wan in two Star Wars spin-off films
For a long time now, Ewan McGregor has constantly been asked if he would return as the wise fan favourite jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi in future Star Wars films, his response has always been an exciting yes. With Disney broadening their Star Wars universe with spin-off films like Rogue One out this December and Han Solo’s Untitled film being released in 2018, there’s been huge speculation on what their next spin-off film will be. Most are saying the third anthology film will centre around either Boba Fett or Obi-Wan Kenobi.
When doing press for his directorial debut, American Pastoral, Ewan was asked if there have been any talks between Disney and himself about his return. McGregor unsurprisingly said he would be happy to come back for a film or two. Suggesting he’s curious about Obi-Wan’s story between the prequels and the original trilogy, “It would be fun to film that story now [that] I’m older,” he said. “I’d be the right age. I’m forty-five, Alec Guinness was what, sixty? I could do two of them! I hope that they’re going to explore different genres under the Star Wars banner,” he continued. “And one of those could be an Obi-Wan Kenobi feature film. Or two! The Obi-Wan Kenobi Story Part 1 and Part 2!”.
McGregor is commonly praised for his performance in the widely disappointing prequel trilogy, being hailed often as the best thing about them, he made a small voice cameo in the recent Star Wars film The Force Awakens during Rey’s vision. With rumours circulating that Rey, could, in fact, be related to Obi-Wan, do you think Kenobi would be the perfect choice for the third Star Wars anthology? And would you like a Ewan McGregor lead Star Wars film?
For your next Star Wars movie fix, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be in cinemas this December. While Ewan McGregor’s directorial debut American Pastoral will be in UK cinemas 11th November 2017.
