Fans fuming over Amy Adams Oscar snub
Arrival may have received eight nominations for this year’s Academy Awards, but its leading star Amy Adams surprisingly missed out and it’s not gone down well with many.
Adams played Linguistics Professor Louise Banks in the film, in a role that saw her tasked with interpreting the language of alien visitors. The Office actress put in an impressive and powerful performance and fans are furious that she has not received the recognition she deserves:
Even Arrival‘s director Denis Villeneuve was surprised at her exclusion:
“This is the big disappointment. I’m deeply disappointed for Amy. She was the soul of this movie. For me, it was a given! She had the movie on her shoulders, she’s the one who made it happen. It’s a strange feeling to celebrate and feel sad at the same time.” he told EW.
To make matters worse for the Academy, the official Oscars website originally, accidentally, announced Adams as a nominee, whoops!
ABC Digital soon apologized for their mistake:
“We briefly posted inaccurate nomination information on the Oscar.com website. We quickly identified and corrected the errors. We apologize to the Academy, press and fans for any confusion.” they said in a statement.
Adams also impressed in Nocturnal Animals but failed to get a nomination for it either. You can see the full list of Oscar nominees here.
