The dust has barely settled from the roaring start to the box-office run of the most recent film in the series, but Universal have fast-tracked Fast and Furious 8 and given it an early 2017 release date.

Vin Diesel had said the follow-up was on its way, but now we know when to expect it. Not many other details are known at this stage, although the setting is rumoured to be L.A. and New York. Another possible note of interest is the apparent return of Eva Mendes who played Monica Fuentes in 2 Fast 2 Furious.

It’s no surprise that Universal are keen on more films in the series. So far, Fast and Furious 7 has grossed more than $1 billion at the international box-office. It’s already the seventh highest grossing movie of all time, and Universal’s biggest hit ever.

Cinema-goers can look forward to more from the gang on April 14 2017.
