Fede Alvarez talks Don’t Breathe 2 and Spider’s Web
Fede Alvarez is one of the most in-demand directors in Hollywood right now after the huge success of this summer’s Don’t Breathe, one of this year’s true sleeper hits. Starring Stephen Lang, Jane Levy and Dylan Minnette, the filmed stormed to the top of the US box office (amongst others) and has so far grossed over $152million from its small $9.9million budget.
Such success has seen the Uruguayan-born director become hugely in-demand with many projects possibly coming his way. But speaking to ComingSoon.net, Alvarez has been discussing Don’t Breathe 2 saying that there will see more:
We just started, but we know exactly where it goes. But we won’t tell you right now. But there will be more Don’t Breathe for sure.
In addition to the sequel, Sony have reportedly been pursuing the director for The Girl In The Spider’s Web, the long-mooted sequel to 2011’s The Girl With Dragon Tattoo. And while thus far it has all been speculation, he says that it is indeed the case:
Is it all true? Yeah, it’s true. We’re putting together the story right now. Obviously, there’s a book and there’s a script that’s great. Because we write everything I direct, we’re working on that part right now to make it our own and put our imprint in it so it feels like it’s part of our filmography.
Alvarez’s sensibilities and directing style lend themselves perfectly to something like Stieg Larsson’s prose so it could be a match made in heaven (we gave thoughts on the sequel here) and give Sony a much-needed hit.
