First Death Note reviews arrive

The first reactions and reviews have arrived for Netflix’s Death Note from SDCC. The Japanese manga series turned movie has received mixed responses following its premiere at San Diego Comic-Con, ranging from “great” to “far from the perfect”. See the initial Twitter reactions below:

While two full reviews have also arrived for the film, unfortunately both are critical:

SchmoesKnow – 2.5/5

IGN – 7/10 – “A flawed take on the beloved manga. Netflix’s live-action Death Note movie is a very condensed take on the manga with two unsatisfying lead performances.”

The film’s synopsis reads:

Light Turner, a bright student, stumbles across a mystical notebook that has the power to kill any person whose name he writes in it. Light decides to launch a secret crusade to rid the streets of criminals. Soon, the student-turned-vigilante finds himself pursued by a famous detective known only by the alias L.

Death Note hits Netflix on 25 August.
